At surface level, Raquel’s work begins as a photograph — captured during walks, travels, or simply of beautiful flowers in a vase at home. But what lies underneath? Through digital brushstrokes and layers of distressing, she transforms the colours and mood of each image. Pixels contort, shift in colour, and sometimes disappear completely. Raquel’s practice brings what lies beneath the surface into the world, revealing the boldness and vibrancy hidden within each photograph while respecting its limitations. She highlights only what she is able to change, embracing the fact that not everything can be transformed.
