Alfie Poelsing

Artist profile
Alfie Poelsing is a German-English artist who works both digitally and traditionally to create visual experiences of memories. Using digital editing software, Alfie manually compiles, distorts, and paints on found images to compress an entire past experience into a singular file, often accompanied by elements such as unique distorted sound files which envelope the viewer into each piece. In the face of rapid technological advancement and the growing concern of generative artificial intelligence and its constant compiling and replication of human work, Alfie turns that system on its head, manually crafting what a computer could only generate. His traditional work is also the product of the compilation of memories. Using acrylic paint, Alfie produces abstract scenes where multiple environments, people, and stories merge into one, much like how the human brain remembers fragments of experiences, and then compiles it into a singular thought. Alfie's work has been exhibited across the UK and the US, with notable shows including his solo show I am your Lobster on Brick Lane, the Hamptons Fine Art Fair in New York, and his self-curated group exhibition INDEFATIGABLE in Clerkenwell
